FAQ

What is OwnAddress?

OwnAddress generates custom cryptocurrency wallet addresses with your chosen prefix or suffix. You pick a pattern, your browser does the math to find a matching keypair. It supports Bitcoin (Legacy, Nested SegWit, Native SegWit, Taproot), Ethereum, and Solana.

How does it work?

Vanity address generation is brute-force search. Your browser generates random private keys, derives the public address, and checks if it matches your pattern. This repeats until a match is found. All computation runs in Web Workers using your CPU threads.

Is it safe?

Your private keys are generated entirely in your browser using standard cryptographic libraries. No keys are ever sent to any server. Once you confirm you've copied your key, it's wiped from browser memory. There is nothing stored on our end.

How long will it take?

Depends on your pattern length, chain, and device speed. Below are estimated times on a typical 8-core laptop using 6 threads (80% CPU). Mobile devices will be 3-5x slower. Your actual speed is shown in Step 2 before you pay.

Chain Type 1 char 2 chars 3 chars 4 chars 5 chars 6 chars
BTC Legacy/Nested < 1s < 1s ~1s ~1 min ~1 hr ~55 hrs
BTC SegWit/Taproot < 1s < 1s < 1s ~6s ~3 min ~1.5 hrs
ETH - < 1s < 1s < 1s < 1s ~6s ~1.5 min
SOL - < 1s < 1s ~7s ~6 min ~6 hrs -

These are averages — actual time can be 2-3x longer due to randomness. SOL is ~6x slower because Ed25519 keys can't be incrementally derived. Generation uses ~80% of your CPU — close other apps and keep the tab active for best performance. The "Check Estimate" step benchmarks your actual device before you pay.

Why does it cost $2?

It's a convenience fee for a browser-based tool that saves you from installing CLI tools, managing dependencies, and running terminal commands. The cryptographic math is standard and well-known — you're paying for the packaged experience.

What if I close the tab during generation?

The generation stops and any progress is lost. You'll need to start over (and pay again). Keep the tab open until your address is found.

What if the payment window expires?

Go back and click "Proceed to Payment" again. A new order with a fresh price quote will be created.
